How often do you find yourself lost in thought?
According to Harvard University, we spend 47% of our day wandering off in to the past or present. The mind, it would seem (the big old pin-ball machine that it is), is hardly ever focused on what’s happening right now.
A thought pops in.
It now has all our attention.
And before we know it, we’re sinking under the weight of it.
It’s why Mindfulness can be such a valuable strategy for mind management. The idea of sitting still and doing nothing doesn’t come naturally, especially for women. Nevertheless, the evidence shows that’s exactly what can change our lives for the better.
This week set the intention to Be Here. Stop what you’re doing and notice everything that’s happening around you. Whether it’s bin lorries outside, the trees blowing in the breeze, or the sound of keyboards tapping behind you, bring it all in to your awareness. If your mind starts to wander, remember that’s what minds do. With kindness, turn your attention back to your environment, and all that’s taking place. Do this as often as possible, and notice how the world slows down.
