Monday Mojo – feel-good motivation for the week ahead: Play it your way
Awareness requires living in the here and now, and not in the elsewhere, the past or the future. ~ Eric Berne, Games People Play
Have you ever noticed the games people play? Just when you think you’ve figured someone out, they surprise you with some unexpected behaviour. Sometimes, it’s unintentional – they didn’t mean to unsettle you, but nevertheless their actions can create anxiety. Other times, the behaviour is aimed at manipulation. Either way, we have to be aware of the games, so we can decide whether to play them – or not.
Even though we can’t control other people, we can become more aware of the impact they have on us.
This week, set the intention to Play it your way. If you have a feeling that someone is playing games, talk it through with someone who can offer impartial guidance, so you can decide the most positive action. Mindfulness is a strategy for becoming more aware of what’s happening in the here and now, and can help you pick your battles; to decide what matters and what doesn’t.
