How’s your energy today? At this time of year we can start to feel drained.
But the world doesn’t really make time for rest. Technology means we are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A recent study found the “average” British person starts checking their work emails from 7.50am and takes at least six “out of hours” phone calls every week. We skip lunch because we “don’t have time”. (And let’s be honest, there’s always one work colleague who just sucks the life out of you). Even the journey home seems to take longer in the dark. Sound familiar?
Building resilience means taking care of ourselves so that we have a store of energy when we need it.
This week, set the intention to Protect Your Energy. Focus on building your resilience by taking at least 20 minutes eating your lunch mindfully, and make a commitment to leave work on time. If someone is draining your energy, consider options for assertive communication. Set healthy boundaries about work, and switch off work-related technology when you get home. Then, have some tasty soul food and curl up with your favourite things.
