April is Stress Awareness Month – here’s top tip #2: Switch it off.
How easy do you find it to switch off your mind? Switching off doesn’t just mean your mobile ‘phone or the TV, but actually turning your away mind from work, family, friends – and then trying to do nothing.
It’s not easy and yet, if we don’t, the Mind will stay active and the body can become restless and exhausted. If you think of the Mind like a muscle, it’s being exercised A LOT and just like any muscle it needs to rest.
Switching off can start by taking time away from social media. Every time you check your FB or Twitter feeds, you’re stimulating the brain in to activity, especially if you read something that gets your Mind whirling.
If you think you might be addicted to using your ‘phone (see how long you can last without picking it up and checking it) then wean yourself away from it gradually by setting limits on how often you use it.
Practicing techniques like Mindfulness can also help.
