Can we talk about hope for a minute?
I don’t mean the kind of hope where we say “I hope it doesn’t rain tomorrow” or “I hope we win the football this weekend” (although it all counts).
I’m talking about hopes for the future, like when you go for a job interview or out on a first date for example and the doubts start to creep in.
You talk yourself out of it.
You avoid what you want.
Some of this is when Imposter Syndrome kicks in. We know on one level we’re more than capable, but the minute someone tells us what a good job we’re doing or how nice we look, we feel like an absolute fraud. Even though we may hope things go our way, there’s a nagging voice that says “nah, it’s not gonna happen”. We want to be positive, but at the same time don’t want to jinx it. It can steal our mojo and we lose a bit of sparkle.
Here’s what might help:
This week, set the intention to Know You Can. You were put on this Earth because you have a gift, and your purpose here is to share it with others. Whether you’re a genius with a spreadsheet or you can cook the most amazing Spaghetti Bolognese, you bring joy into the world where it’s needed. That doesn’t mean you have to be switched on to fabulousness all the time, but when people need you you’re there and it matters. You literally bring something to this world just by being in it.
This article talks about ways to deal with self-doubt including the importance of building a tribe of believers – those who bring out the best in you. Above all, know you are capable and valuable and it’s important to keep telling yourself (even if you’re not quite sure yet).
