Scientists have been telling us for a while now how much sleep we need. Depending on which research you read, the average figure quoted for adults is eight hours a night. But the reality is, most people aren’t getting that and may not even need that much (at least not every night).

This is one of the Big Myths of Sleep I explore in my book Answers In The Dark: Grief, Sleep and How Dreams Can Help You Heal.

Getting a good night’s sleep is not just about how much coffee you drink during the day, but can be about becoming more in tune with your body and the cycles we live by – right down to when we set our alarm each day. I touch on this here.

Everyone is different though so how much sleep you need may not be the same as someone else. You may find The Sleep Cycle Repair Kit that features in Answers In The Dark helpful.

Obviously if you’re having sleep problems to the extent it’s affecting your physical or mental health, have a chat with your doctor.
