I’m Delphi Ellis – Helping You Sparkle™. I am a qualified counsellor, mental health and well-being trainer, and mindfulness practitioner. I provide services into the community to help people, often during or after a difficult time in their lives, find what I call their ‘mojo’ (feel-good energy) and get their sparkle back. I have a special interest in dreams and sleep, appearing on TV shows like Loose Women. (You can find out more about this further down the page).

I offer personal development programmes and events which focus on mental health maintenance, and include bereavement awareness and mindful leadership training. I run relaxation classes teaching mindfulness, and deliver on a range of topics from assertiveness training to stress and anxiety management.

My mission is to help improve the global conversation around mental health, and enhance the well-being of others through compassionate education. This includes challenging with empathy society’s approach to grief and bereavement, death and dying; to break the stigma associated with poor mental health particularly at work; and raise awareness of and hold conversations about how best to help those affected by the topics I cover. I am a strong advocate of self-compassion, encouraging regular restorative acts of self-care.

I am based in Milton Keynes, with some services available nationwide.

Professional Career

I started my therapeutic career in 2002, where I mainly supported those bereaved by murder and suicide. I attended inquests at coroner’s court, and later did additional training with the National Homicide Service.

During 2018, I was the nationwide specialist lead trainer and developed the training for the More than Words project, promoting the benefits of peer support groups for bereaved people. In 2019, I became the lead trainer and developed the training for the You Behind the Uniform project, teaching bereavement awareness and encouraging self-care with front-line emergency personnel, including police officers, search and rescue and paramedics.

With a therapeutic career spanning nearly two decades, I have brought all my skills and experience together to work in the community, raising awareness and promoting the benefits of mental health maintenance through 1-1 sessions, workshops and group events. When the time is right for my clients, we work collaboratively to help them find their way forward and get their sparkle back.

As an integrated counsellor, I am able to use a number of different models, recognising the uniqueness of my clients and their situation; people are at the heart of the work I do. I listen to what my clients need, helping them find their way back to centre, towards a ‘new normal’. (You can find out more about my counselling services here.)

Female Mental Health

In 2004, I established a unique website dedicated to Pregnancy Mental Health, following my own experience of depression and anxiety during pregnancy. This began a journey of promoting better female mental health for those affected by their pregnancy, and later for those escaping domestic abuse. I now promote healthy dialogue to help end discrimination and highlight inequality, campaigning through my Lets Talk Lady Business™ website and social media, to help end shaming, exploitation and violence towards women.

I have featured in several popular magazines including Pregnancy and Birth and Natural Health, and featured on radio programmes like Radio 4’s Women’s Hour. (You can see an extensive list of tv and media appearances below).

Qualifications and Training

My qualifications and training include Therapeutic Counselling, Delivering Adult Learning, Bereavement Awareness, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Support for Insomnia, Positive Psychology, Mental Health First Aid and Mindfulness. I am accredited to work with victims of crime, including those escaping domestic abuse.

Volunteering and Charity Work

I volunteer locally as a ‘Community Champion’ and Independent Adviser, raising awareness of challenges associated with the topics I cover. I encourage collaboration between agencies, promoting effective (mindful) leadership, and wellness, particularly for front-line personnel.

I also work for a charity in my spare time which offers a unique transport service for cancer patients, which has won the Queens Award for Voluntary Service.

Other interests

As well as sleep and dreams, I have a keen interest in neuroscience, particularly research around compassion focused therapy, using mindfulness for emotion regulation and adapting behaviour, such as breaking habits and goal setting.

I have followed a Buddhist way of life since around 2009, most recently in the Theravada tradition. This means I am able to bring into my work, where appropriate, an intelligent philosophy which focuses on mindful living, with a positive intention to alleviate the suffering of others.
