Monday Mojo – Begin Your Vision

What are your plans? It might sound a weird question, when there’s so much uncertainty in the world right now so bear with me whilst I expand.

You see, I’m a big believer in making them.

I’m not talking about big life changes, or planning your future to the nth degree, especially when COVID-19 has made it almost impossible to book ahead.

I’m talking about honouring what you can reasonably affect and making tiny steps each day to feel more in control. It might start with being focused on coping, just getting through the next hour, and the one after that – and honestly, that’s so important right now.

For example, if you know you’ve got a meeting coming up with someone who always leaves you bristling, you might plan a self-care break afterwards that might just involve a quiet cup of tea. Or it might be giving yourself permission this week to find your awe – a ‘wow-moment’ – that gently brings you back to centre.

Sometimes it starts by going back to basics and finding your wish; we know it helps more to explore your why rather than the how when making plans.

I’ve also spoken before about wise hope and I strongly believe we all need something to look forward to, and making a plan – even a tiny one – can help with that. Have an idea about where you are going, especially if you don’t want to stay where you are.

Here’s some ideas that might help:

This week, maybe set the intention to Begin Your Vision. Plans tend to work best when we keep them small and without assumptions, just as not being too rigid about the outcome means success is more likely. Rather than planning too big or too far ahead, maybe make a plan for today, this week, or this month.

It might start with questions like: “what can I give my body that it needs right now”? Or “how can I support my well-being this week, in ways that feel healthy and work for me?”. You might decide to go for a walk between now and the weekend, or to host a virtual cuppa with a friend. If success means we just need to achieve something, even getting out of bed right now counts. And if you have bigger plans for the future, make sure you have compassionate goals to work with.
