5 Ways to Wellbeing – Be Active

The 5 Ways to Wellbeing is a campaign to raise awareness about simple strategies everyone can adopt for improving our overall mental health. Over the next few months, Helping You Sparkle™ is working alongside the Public Health team at Milton Keynes Council, focusing on and promoting the benefits of each of the following topics:

  • Connect
  • Be active
  • Take notice
  • Keep learning, and
  • Give

For the month of January, we’re focusing on Be Active. What does “being active” mean to you?

be-active

You might be worried that being active means taking part in high energy activities, like running or riding a bike.  But being active can include gardening, yoga or going for a walk with friends.  Being active may mean getting out and about, spending time with friends and just 10 minutes of activity a day has been shown to improve mood.  Dancing, playing golf, pilates and swimming are all healthy ways to be active.  Speak to your doctor first if you’re worried about taking part in any physical activity.

Serenity by Helping You Sparkle™ blends gentle movement with mindfulness and meditation.  Click here for details.
